Client name: Australian Federal Police

Project name: Engagement of Corporate Advisors for the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary – Papua New Guinea Australia Policing Partnership

Duration: 2015 - ongoing

Location: Papua New Guinea

Coffey’s advisory team is working with the Australian Federal Police and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to provide specialist skills that support capacity development in PNG’s national police force.

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is PNG’s national police force with around 5,200 officers posted around the country. Its role is to preserve peace and good order and impartially enforce the law in partnership with the community.

A professional and modern police force is important to the PNG Government and the RPNGC is currently undergoing significant reform and expansion. As part of the Australian Government’s Papua New Guinea Australia Policing Partnership (PNG-APP), Coffey’s corporate advisors are supporting the RPNGC by working within the RPNGC’s Office of Reform, and in urban and district level police stations in Port Moresby and Lae.

The PNG-APP / Coffey operational work structure is unique. Coffey’s advisors are assigned to a PNG-APP team under the operational supervision of a PNG-APP supervisor. Each advisor works closely with members of both the PNG-APP and RPNGC to achieve specific objectives within a rolling design format. Whilst the PNG-APP is responsible for the advisors’ operational management, Coffey is responsible for administrative and contractual management.
